Can my landlord charge me for cleaning?
Only for cleaning beyond normal wear and tear, based on your check-in inventory. Landlords limit tenancy deposits to five weeks' rent. A simple checklist is a cheap way to protect yourself from deductions you might need to dispute.
Do the water and electricity need to be on?
Yes. We need both to run our equipment and wash surfaces well. So, keep them on until you finish cleaning, then cancel them afterwards.
Do I need to empty the cupboards and fridge?
Yes. Clear the cupboards, drawers, and wardrobes inside and out. They must be empty. Also, empty the fridge and freezer, and defrost the freezer beforehand.
